The Institute recognizes its role and responsibility to assist students in finding gainful employment upon graduation.  The Placement Office is designed to offer students assistance and reinforcement in preparing graduates for employment and to give them support in developing successful job search strategies.

While assistance to student is available, the Institute cannot GUARANTEE employment to any student or graduate.

Students seeking employment should contact the Placement Office to schedule appointments during which aptitudes, abilities, qualifications and interests are discussed and assessed.  Students should become familiar with the Office of Placement during their last term so that they may begin their job preparation. The services of the Office of Placement include, but not limited to, interviewing technique procedures, resume preparation, and employment assessment.

The Placement Office is available to students who are in good academic standing, comply with the rules, regulations and procedures of the placement assistance service, maintain satisfactory attendance and fulfill all financial obligations to the Institute.

  Appearance

Students are expected to dress in a manner befitting the business office and project an image of professionalism. This does not suggest that students purchase a new wardrobe, but rather coordinate clothes (including colors and styles) they already have.  However, future purchases should enhance job prospects.

The following are some dress suggestions for job interviews:

  • Dresses

  • Skirts and blouses

  • Slacks (absolutely no jeans of any color as part of a suit or coordinated with a jacket and blouse)

  • Suits - skirts and jackets or pant suits

  • Shoes - with comfortable heels

For most positions, the safest bet is to dress conservatively.  Most interviewers frown upon “sexy” dress. Make sure perfume or other scents are not so strong as to permeate the room.  An applicant should not be remembered because of a lingering smell, no matter how expensive the aroma.

  Attitude

Attitude has been defined as “manner of acting, feeling, or thinking that shows one’s disposition, opinion or personality.”  Attitude, needless to say, manifests itself in the way a person behaves.  While skills have definite impact on success, attitude, as reflected in behavior and relationship with others, may make the difference after other requirements are satisfied.

Students are constantly reminded that since attitudes as reflected in behavior, affect others perception of an individual, they must exhibit behaviors that flatter their training and career goals.

NOTE:  Gum chewing is unprofessional.  Never chew gum at anytime, especially on a job interview.
