Program Pursuit

In order to graduate successfully from the program, students must complete all courses in the approved curriculum that they are enrolled in within the expected completion date timeframe. However, it is understood that circumstances may arise which will prevent students from completing their programs on the predetermined completion date.  It is for this reason that students may extend their expected date of completion.

  School Hours

Full-time students attend classes Monday to Thursday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 10:20 p.m.

 Session/Enrollment

Three sessions are available to students: morning, afternoon and evening.  Classes meet 6 hours daily, 24 hours weekly.  Student must be available for the session of the program that he/she is enrolled in.  The enrollment of any applicant whose work schedule overlap session hours will be rejected.

  Late Enrollment

Any applicant who misses the official start date of a program or course, may make a request to the school’s Director to enroll late.  Requests for late enrollment will only be considered during the first week of instruction and may only be granted if the applicant agrees to complete remediation hours for any hours missed from the first week of instruction.

  Enrollment Agreement

An applicant must complete and sign an enrollment agreement for the selected program or course of study.  A non-refundable registration fee of $100.00 is payable upon enrollment.  The registration fee is applicable only to the specific start date of the program or course that the applicant is enrolled in, and may not be applied to another start date of a program or course.

  Academic Year

The academic year consists of 900 hours of instruction.

  Unit of Instruction

Each fifty-minute class period of a term is equivalent to one instructional hour, which is also equivalent to one clock hour.

  Maximum Time For Program Completion

The maximum time allowed for a student to complete a program or course of study is 1.5 times the normal program or course length as measured by total program clock hours.  Failure to complete the program or course during the maximum time frame will result into dismissal.

Regular Full-Time Students

Regular full-time students are those students enrolled in pro-grams/courses of 1920 to 768 hours.  Students are expected to carry a weekly academic workload of 24 clock hours.  To qualify for a New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) grant, students must be enrolled in a program of 1440 hours minimum.  All students must meet satisfactory progress towards program completion in compliance with the Standards of Satisfactory Progress (SAP) as outlined on pages 20 to 28 of the catalog.

Non-Regular Students

Non-regular students are those students who cannot attend classes full-time and are enrolled in courses of less than 384 hours.  Since they are considered part-time students, they are not eligible for financial aid.

  Tuition

Tuition is paid in advance.  However, tuition may be deferred based on financial aid eligibility.  A payment plan is available to students who do not meet financial aid requirements or who are not financially able to pay tuition fees in advance.

Tuition and fees listed in the catalog are subject to change without prior notice.

  Books and Work Materials

Students are responsible for textbooks and work materials.  Required books and supplies may be provided by the Institute to be purchased by students at the beginning of the term.  Students must enter classes prepared with books and work materials at all times.

  Attendance

Regular attendance is essential to each student’s success in his/her program or course of study.  The instructor takes attendance for every instructional hour of the program that a student is enrolled in. Thereafter, attendance is recorded on each student’s Permanent Attendance Record.

  Absences

Students must be on time and attend all scheduled classes.  When absences occur, students are expected to telephone the school concerning the cause of absence(s) and the expected date of return before the start of the first class.  All work assignments and absences above 10% of the programs must be made up.

Further, since classes for full-time students are held Monday to Thursday, students are expected to use Fridays to take care of their personal problems.  Excessive absences may lead to:

  • Oral warning

  • Written warning

  • Probation

  • Termination

  Lateness

Any student entering class ten or more minutes late will be recorded as absent for that instructional hour.  Leaving a class 10 or more minutes early will also be treated as an absence.  Persistent lateness is disruptive and interferes with the learning process of the group.

Chronic latecomers will be subject to suspension from the Institute.

  Termination and Withdrawal

The school RESERVES the right to dismiss a student who is absent from classes for thirty consecutive calendar days without contacting the institute to explain the reason or cause of the absences.

Student will be determined to have withdrawn if he/she does not respond to the Institute’s correspondence and telephone calls regarding absences.

The failure of a student to respond to the Institute’s notices on attendance and absences, may delay refund of tuition due, pursuant to Section 5002 of the Education Law.

Program Change

A student may be permitted to transfer from one program to another within certain time limits.  Students enrolled in programs of three or four terms may change programs at the end of the first term only.  Students enrolled in programs with ESL components may change programs at the end of the ESL portion only.

  Make-Up Policy

The Institute’s make-up policy permits a student who has been absent due to extenuating circumstances to makeup hours miss-ed in excess of excused absences anytime during the term.  During this period, there are no additional charges for make-up hours.

However, if make-up hours go beyond the expected date of graduation, students may be charged at the hourly rate as stated on the enrollment agreement.

  Advanced Standing

A student may be awarded advanced standing in one or more courses within the curriculum. To receive advanced standing, student must meet the Institute’s entrance requirements.  They must also test on instructional materials and achieve a Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) of 2.0, minimum, to determine mastery of the subject applied for advanced standing.  The evaluation and results will be placed in student’s file.  To compensate for the courses that were waived, student must take other courses.

  Transfer Students

Transfer students who have already completed required courses at a similar registered and accredited institution, may be allowed to complete fewer instructional hours than specified or may have certain required courses waived, and instead, take other course/ courses to complete the total number of instructional hours.

Section 5002 (4) and (5) of the Education Law specifies that a student must complete all courses in his or her chosen program and acquire an overall grade point average of 2.0 minimum.

  Leave of Absence

In the case of prolonged illness, accident, death in the family, or other special conditions that render attendance impossible or impractical, a student may apply for a leave of absence.

A leave of absence, must be requested in writing, and approved by the Director/Dean.  No monetary charges or accumulated absences will be assessed to the student during the leave of absence.  The effective date of the leave of absence is the date that the leave of absence is granted.

No more than one leave of absence will be granted within a 12-month period. The student is required to return on the due date.  Failure to return from a leave of absence will result in dismissal.

The maximum period for a leave of absence that a student is allowed is 60 days.  A leave of absence may affect a student’s satisfactory academic progress.

A student on a leave of absence for maximum thirty days may return to the classes of the same start date that the student left providing he’s she undergoes counseling, retesting, make up all missing work and satisfy all incomplete courses.

Student may also be placed on probation for one marking period.

A student whose leave of absence is in excess of thirty days cannot return to classes of the same start date that the student left.  He/she may be placed in classes of a subsequent start date.  In order to complete program requirements and meet satisfactory academic progress, graduation date will be extended.

Leave of absences must begin at the end of the current term or before the beginning of the new term.  A leave of absence will not be granted during the term unless he/she proves extreme circumstances, such as death in the family, illness, injury, childcare problems, undue hardship as a result of unavoidable circumstances. In this case the student must have written proof or documentary evidence, which will be placed in student’s file.

If a student on leave of absence does not return or contact the institution by the return date, student’s enrollment will be terminated and financial aid that the Institute is not entitled to, refunded to the various agencies.

Leave of Absence Without Permission

Students taking a leave of absence without informing the Institute in writing may be dismissed from the Institute.  Written proof of extreme circumstances will be the only exception considered.

Extended Absence From Program

Any student who is absent for more than 20 percent of the total number of instructional hours offered during the first half of the program (not including approved LOA) and who has not maintained satisfactory academic progress, shall be dismissed.

The Institute may, at its discretion, impose academic probation for one term only in lieu of dismissal.  The Institute may dismiss any student at the end of the academic probation if the student fails to either raise his or her G.P.A. to 2.0, or is absent for more than 20% of the probationary period.

  Extenuating Circumstances

Forms of extenuating circumstances are: injury due to an illness of the student; death of a close relative; or undue hardship as a result of other special circumstances.  Documentation is required for student’s file.

  Academic Probation

The Institute may impose academic probation on a student for a period of one term for failure to achieve a Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) of 2.0.  If student fails to achieve satisfactory progress at the end of the term, termination may result.

If at the discretion of the Director the student is allowed to re-main in the school, the grade must be brought up to a G.P.A. of 2.0 or better in order for student to continue receiving financial aid for subsequent terms.

During academic probation, advisement and remediation are available to students.

Re-Admittance

Students, who have withdrawn, dropped or terminated from the Institute, may re-enter provided the following criteria are met:

Tuition liabilities incurred during the previous enrollment, must be paid in full prior to re-entry.

Only one re-entry permitted.

If a student received a TAP grant while attending the Institute, student will not be eligible for an additional TAP grant until one year has passed from the last day of attendance.  Student will be

exempt from this rule if he/she did not receive a TAP grant.  At the discretion of the Director/Dean, student may restart the program with courses that were not successfully competed at time of termination.

  Repeat Training

A student will be allowed to repeat a failing course, provided that he/she continues to meet satisfactory academic progress by achieving a 2.0 G.P.A.  In the event that a student must repeat a course, a time lapse between terms will not be permitted.  Further, a student repeating a course may be charged the hourly tuition rate as defined on the enrollment agreement.
